Warrior Kids Judo Classes
At Lewis Center Location
Our Warrior Kids Judo class teaches children balance, coordination, and self-control through fun and engaging martial arts training. Kids build strength, confidence, and character while learning real Judo techniques in a safe, supportive setting.
Why Judo for Kids
Judo gives children a safe, structured way to learn how their own body moves. Before anyone learns to throw, they learn to fall — breakfalls are the first skill taught, and the one that carries over to the playground and the driveway. From there, classes build coordination, balance, and the patience to work at a technique until it clicks. Because judo is always practised with a partner, every session involves cooperation, taking turns, and looking after someone else’s safety.
Warrior Kids Judo Program (Ages 7–15)
Our Kids Judo program introduces students to the Olympic sport of Judo in a fun, safe, and structured environment. Designed for ages 7 to 15, classes focus on balance, coordination, and effective throwing techniques — while also building discipline, confidence, and respect.
Students will learn:
Basic throws, falls, and grips
How to move and react with control
Sportsmanship and focus through live practice
Taught by experienced coaches, Kids Judo is a great way for kids to stay active, gain confidence, and learn valuable skills on and off the mats.
What a Warrior Kids Judo class looks like
Classes follow a consistent structure: a warm-up that doubles as movement training, breakfall practice, and partner technique work, with coaches guiding each drill. Students are grouped by age and experience, so newer children are never matched against far more advanced ones. Advanced training sits in separate classes, which students move into only when their coach says they are ready.
When can my child start?
Warrior Kids Judo is for ages 7 to 15. Children aged 4 to 6 start in Junior Judo, and students aged 7 to 9 who are new to martial arts usually begin in Kids Fundamentals before moving up. From 16, students train in our general adult classes. No previous experience is needed, and children can join at any point in the year.
Is judo safe for children?
Falling is taught before throwing. Every child learns ukemi — breakfalls — from their first class, practised on matted flooring under direct supervision. Judo is a grappling art with no striking, so no punches or kicks are thrown in class at any level.
What your child will need
Comfortable athletic clothing is fine for a first class, along with bare feet on the mat and a water bottle. Students who continue will need a judogi, the traditional judo uniform, and our coaches will help with sizing when the time comes.
What children take away
The habits judo builds tend to show up outside the gym first — listening more carefully, waiting their turn, and trying again after something does not work. Judo also has a clear belt progression, which gives children a visible sense of getting better at something over time.
Where we teach it
Warrior Kids Judo is taught at our Lewis Center location. Families at our Gahanna location can find kids’ classes in Jiu-Jitsu and Kickboxing.
