Warrior Kids Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Why Jiu-Jitsu for Kids

Jiu-Jitsu is a grappling art, which means children learn to control a situation using leverage and position rather than striking. For a lot of parents that is the appeal: it is a full-contact sport with no punching or kicking. It also rewards patience over size. A smaller child who understands position can control a bigger one, and discovering that changes how a kid carries themselves.

Warrior Kids Jiu-Jitsu Program

Ages 7–15

Our Warrior Kids program teaches kids real Jiu-Jitsu in a fun, structured, and supportive environment. Designed for ages 7 to 15, the focus is on building confidence, discipline, and self-defense skills through age-appropriate techniques and drills.

Kids learn:

  • Practical Jiu-Jitsu for safety and control

  • Focus, respect, and responsibility

  • Teamwork and leadership

Led by expert instructors, this program helps kids grow stronger on and off the mats.

What a Warrior Kids Jiu-Jitsu class looks like

A class opens with a warm-up built around movement — shrimping, bridging, rolling — then moves into the technique of the day, drilled with a partner under coaching. Students are grouped by age and experience, so newer children work with others at their level. Advanced training runs as separate classes, and students move into those only when a coach says they are ready.

When can my child start?

Warrior Kids Jiu-Jitsu is for ages 7 to 15. Children aged 4 to 6 start in Lil Warriors. Students aged 7 to 9 who are new to martial arts train in Kids Fundamentals, which runs alongside Warrior Kids so that beginners get the groundwork while training in the same room. From 16, students join our general classes. No experience is needed, and children can start at any time of year.

Gi or no-gi?

Both, and the difference matters more than it sounds. Gi classes are trained in the traditional uniform, where grips on the jacket and collar are part of the game. No-gi is trained in a rashguard and shorts, which is faster and relies on body control rather than grips. Our Lewis Center location runs kids classes in both. Our Gahanna location runs kids no-gi.

What your child will need

Comfortable athletic clothing works for a first class. Students who continue will need a gi for gi classes and a rashguard and shorts for no-gi, and our coaches will point you at the right sizing before you buy anything. Bare feet on the mat, nails trimmed short, and a water bottle.

What children take away

Jiu-Jitsu gives children a lot of small problems to solve with their body, and very quick feedback on whether the solution worked. That tends to build a particular kind of composure — staying calm when something is not going their way, and trying a different approach instead of giving up.

Where we teach it
